On Quantum-Mechanical Methods in Valence Theory.

چکیده
In April of 1950, at the Detroit ACS meeting, a group of chemists and physicists fell into a discussion of the inadequacies of valence theory, and what might be done to improve it. The need felt most acutely was a reliable table of the difficult integrals which inevitably turn up in valence calculations. Everyone agreed that a conference on such integrals would be desirable, both to find out which integrals would be most useful, and to avoid duplication of effort in computing them. Actually, the evaluation of integrals is not the only difficulty in quantum-mechanical valance theory, and as the idea of a conference developed, the range of topics was broadened. R. S. Mulliken of the University of Chicago took this idea and carried out the considerable work of organizing a conference. In this he was aided by the advice and cooperation of D. A. MacInnes, Chairman of the National Academy of Sciences Committee on Scientific Conferences. And so, with the sponsorship of the National Academy of Sciences and the financial support and encouragement of the Office of Naval Research, a Conference on Quantum-Mechanical Methods in Valence Theory was held on September 8 to 10, 1951, at Ram's Head Inn, Shlter Island, Long Island, with Mulliken as Conference Chairman. Invitations were issued to a number of chemists and physicists, both in the United States and overseas. The following attended:

In this study, paraphenylenediamine was first bonded to the fullerene and was optimized geometrically by Using the quantum chemistry methods. paraphenylenediamine was examined in the isolated state and in the fullerene-bonded state via carbon atoms. In the theoretical research, the simulation was done by the Gauss View software. Then, the bonding orbital calculation was done by using the NBO me...

Tolazoline is a non-selective competitive α-adrenergic receptor antagonist. It is a vasodilator that is used to treat spasms of peripheral blood vessels (as in acrocyanosis).Tolazoline is indicated in the treatment of persistent pulmonary hypertension in the newborn (persistent fetal circulation) when systemic arterial oxygenation cannot be maintained by supplemental oxygen and mechanical venti...
متن کاملQuantum mechanical investigation of 4-hydroxy phenyl azobenzene adsorption on the boron nitride nanotubes
In this study, the adsorption of 4-hydroxy phenyl-azobenzene on the surface of (4, 0) zigzag open-end boron nitride nanotube (BNNT) has been investigated by quantum calculations. In order to find the preferred adsorption site, different positions and orientations were considered. The impacts of donor-acceptor electron delocalization on the structural and electronic properties and reactivity of ...

متن کاملChapter 9 SIMULATION OF CHEMICAL REACTIONS IN SOLUTION USING AN AB INITIO MOLECULAR ORBITAL-VALENCE BOND MODEL
A mixed molecular orbital and valence bond (MOVB) method has been developed and applied to chemical reactions. In the MOVB method, a diabatic or valence bond (VB) state is defined with a block-localized wave function (BLW). Consequently, the adiabatic state can be described by the superposition of a set of critical adiabatic states. Test cases indicate the method is a viable alternative to the ...
